David Lee Haskins was awarded the 2022 Chris Lee Award for Metals Research from SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) and ICA (International Copper Association). The award is given to a graduate student or recent graduate who has focused their research on the fate and/or effects of metals in the environment. A key consideration is that the awardee will continue their research on metals-related environmental issues, and ICA provides funds to support that research.

David Lee obtained his M.S. (2016) through the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and researched at Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, where he examined the bioaccumulation and sublethal effects of selenium and other trace elements in coal fly ash on freshwater turtles. He studied the accumulation and sublethal effects of mercury in watersnakes for his dissertation, which he completed through UGA’s Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program (2021). Dr. Tracey Tuberville (SREL) and Dr. Robert Bringolf (Warnell) – both faculty affiliated with ITP – served as David Lee’s co-advisors for both degrees. David Lee continues to investigate contaminants’ fate and sublethal effects on wildlife.
